Welcome to Ms. Kolar's Classroom
Counselor
My name is Kathryn Kolar and I am beginning my 17th year at Union City Schools. I promise you it’s true- 4 of us did the math and we really are getting that old. This is my second year as School Counselor and I look forward to building upon the hard work all of our students and faculty did towards our social emotional development. Helping our community navigate through life after a global pandemic has shown me that our strong family atmosphere is what is missing in the world and our students are going to help bring kindness back.
Back up, where did this journey start? I graduated from Union City High School in 1999 in the biggest class to ever graduate from Union City. 39 in case you were wondering. I then graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2005 and began teaching at Union City the same year. During that journey I have worn many hats, from Special Education Teacher to English teacher. In May of 2019 I felt called to continue my educational journey and I went back to school again. After graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in May 2021 (With Honors), I put on what I believe will be my final hat and look forward to serving my second year as School Counselor. I live in El Reno with my husband Donnie of 13 years and our 9 cats. It’s normal, trust me. I can’t wait to see everyone and get to know all of our new faces.
